The Kingdom's Leadership in the World of TradeMarks
TradeMarks are the identity that distinguishes a product or service from others in the market, and they are among the most important assets owned by businessmen and companies. A TradeMark conveys a message, value, and trust to customers, affecting purchasing decisions and loyalty. Therefore, the Kingdom is striving to develop and protect its TradeMark sector through policies, procedures, and services.
Registering a TradeMark grants its owner exclusive rights to use it and prevent others from using it without permission. This allows the owner to protect the TradeMark’s reputation and customer trust, increase its market value, and potentially pursue legal action against anyone who violates these rights.
In this context, we would like to outline the steps to register a TradeMark:
- Ensure that the TradeMark complies with the terms and conditions set by the Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization.
- Search the organization's database to ensure that there are no similar or conflicting TradeMarks.
- Prepare the TradeMark registration application and attach the required documents such as a copy of the commercial register, a certificate of membership in the Chamber of Commerce, or a patent or industrial model certificate.
- Pay the registration, publication, and issuance fees.
- Await the examination of the TradeMark registration application by the organization and the issuance of an approval or rejection decision.
It’s important to note that upon approval, an advertisement for the TradeMark registration will be published in the official newspaper and on the organization’s website for 60 days to allow for objections. If no objections are raised, a TradeMark registration certificate will be issued.
Moreover, we would like to highlight the Kingdom’s achievements in the TradeMark field in recent years and how these achievements contribute to supporting Vision 2030 and achieving its economic and social goals.
The government pays great attention to developing and promoting its TradeMarks in various fields, whether at the local, regional, or international level. This stems from Vision 2030, which aims to make the Kingdom a global center for investment, innovation, and sustainable development.
In that regard, we will shed light on some of the Kingdom’s accomplishments in the TradeMark field in recent years, including:
